Meet Chef Noodles
Charlotte has been coveting this chef puppet for some time. She saw it at a store (the grocery store where we shop) and every time we go there she HAS to go check it out.
The one day it wasn't there. Oh no. She talked about it for a long time after that.

More stylin' than me
Charlotte dresses much better than her Mama.
I think she looks so cute in this outfit (thanks Grandma Bridget for the shirt!). The first picture she looks like she's saying the Pledge of Allegiance (she's not ... but it looks cute).
This is Sarah is in her oft-found pose when we're trying to leave for school. "I want go too! I want go School!"
Then after we come back from dropping her off, Sarah asks me every 2 minutes, "Where Chahdotte?" and "I go look for bus." (Charlotte rides the bus home from school.) She misses her sister.

A couple of videos
There are two videos below. The first shows how strong Charlotte is becoming. She has been practicing for a long time hanging upside down from the trapeze bar and she is now able to flip herself up there all on her own.
The second one shows her putting her face in the water. Just one day, all of a sudden, she decided to put her face in the water and blow bubbles. She started doing this after watchign an episode of Caillou where he learns to put his face in the water and swim under water. See, Caillou's not ALL bad. (I'm quite proud of my videography in filming her and not letting any of her girly parts be seen.)

What they're up to
I don't write often on here, usually just post pictures. But I thought it might be fun to share a little about what each girl is up to these days.
Sarah is a riot. She's a really good talker for her age (which is the opposite of her big sister, so Michael and I are always amazed). One of her favorite things to say is, "Why not?" and "But why not, Mommy?"
When she has a dirty diaper she will say, "There's a turtle in my diaper." We can only assume she means turd.
Yesterday at my Mom's house, she wanted to see their garage and insisted that Grandpa keep showing her the garage. Then Grandma. Then Grandpa again. On her third visit she opened the refrigerator door and said, "I need a Coke." (No, she does not drink Coke...)
She is a world-class pouter. She has so much expression in those stunning blue eyes.
She likes to pull hair. My hair, her hair. Her hair might be inches longer if she weren't so busy pulling on it when she's falling asleep. Fortunately it's happening less and less. Hopefully it stop altogether soon.
Sarah is in a nudity phase (as evidenced by dinner at our "day in the life" pictures). She hates to wear a diaper and clothes. She's nearly potty trained. So close. I just need to have a block of a few days to really focus on it and I think she'll be fully trained. When she does want to wear clothes, she only wants to wear Charlotte's clothes.
She's very sweet. When she sees one of Charlotte's sippy cups laying around the house, she'll bring it to her and say, "Here you go, Chahdotte, here you go."
She misses her big sister now that she's back at preschool. Both mornings Charlotte was at school this week, I'd see Sarah wandering around looking for her. Then she'd ask me, "Where'd Chahdotte go?" and then say, "I go find her."
That brings us to Charlotte. Charlotte started back at preschool this week. Just two days. She cried the first day (for an hour!) but only briefly the 2nd day. Progress is good. When she came the first day she told me, "I cried a really, really, really, really long time."
Charlotte's communication skills continue to improve daily. She's doing better and better. Now that's back in her preschool class with the trained staff, I am hopeful that we'll see even more and more.
Charlotte is very into pretend play. She loves to "make" us food in her kitchen. She knows a lot of sign language (thanks to Signing Time!) and so when she is "cooking" she turns around and does the sign for cook and then hands the "food" to us with a big "Here you go." She likes to pretend play "restaurant" ... playing all the roles ... customer, waitress, chef.
She loves to eat out at restaurants and is a very good customer. Always insisting upon ordering her own food and she will pay the bill as well. She thinks anyone wearing an apron is a waitress so, for example, she'll ask the clerk behind the deli counter at Kroger if she will take her order. Always makes for good laughs.
Like most kids her age, Charlotte likes swimming and the playground. But what she really likes is shopping. Especially grocery shopping. Heaven forbid I go grocery shopping without her. I recently made a few trips to Whole Foods and that is her new favorite store.
Probably most readers of this blog know that Charlotte taught herself to read by the time she was 3. We continuously notice huge gains in her reading. She is reading way beyond her age level. We've never had her tested but it's at least first grade and possibly 2nd grade level. While it's wondeful that she can read, what's concering about it is that she might lag in comprehension (because she learned to read so early). We are noticing, however, that she comprehends most of what she is reading - especially if it is age appropriate. It's been an exciting thing to watch her reading skills unfold before our eyes.
So that's a little update on the R girls. Hope you enjoyed.

First day of preschool
Charlotte started her first day of preschool day. This is her 2nd year at her school. Same teacher and some of the kids are returning and there are new ones too.
She had some jitters yesterday about going, but she seemed fine this morning and went off with the person who walked her to the classroom.

A Day in the Life
Some friends and I thought it would be fun to photo-document a typical day in our lives. Here's our day yesterday, the last Friday of summer before Charlotte starts preschool again.
Sarah and I woke up in time to see Daddy off to work.
She and I had some good playtime together while we waited for Charlotte to get up.
"Pick me up, pwease."
Diapers on the head are sooo fun.
We read a book together.
Then we went upstairs to see if Charlotte was up yet.
She wasn't. So Sarah busied herself with the wipes.
Then it was time for breakfast for Sarah. Yummy Scrambled Eggs!
We thought maybe we heard something upstairs.
We did! We did! Charlotte's up!
Charlotte is a slow waker-upper. She usually likes to watch a TV show first thing.
Soon she was ready for breakfast. Sarah tried to hone in on it.
Oops! A chocolate milk accident. Have to change clothes.
Then it's off to the store. Every time we leave the house, the girls have to "pick a flower" (the horticulturists reading this are aghast!).
Our destination this day.
When we go to Walmart Charlotte always wants to go in the "Food Center" entrance and not the "Low Prices" entrance. Fine, whatever, but I needed to go to the other side of the store to get some skin care stuff. She's crying the whole time we're walking through saying she wants to go to the Food Center. This kills me. It's just so unexpected for a little kid.
We turn into an aisle, there's a female customer there, and thru her tears Charlotte says, "Mommyyyyy, I can't say hi to that lady!" Me and the lady just burst out laughing. The woman says, You don't have to say hi to me, then. And then I say something to her and Charlotte says, "You can't talk to her either." Okay, then, I won't.
Finally, we were done and got caught in the rain on the way out of the store.
Before you know it's time for lunch! Today being Friday means Hot Dogs!!
Then an afternoon of playing.

I've been trying to exercise daily. There are challenges.
Someone gave us a bunch of their old books, so we headed up to Sarah's room to sort through them.
The girls played Connect Four in the crib.
Sarah tried on shoes
Charlotte rested
For whatever reason, they wanted to take a bath in the afternoon, before dinner.
Daddy came home and trimmed his beard.
They refused to get dressed for dinner. So Daddy played along (he was not fully nude - whew!)
Sarah went to bed early (thanks to not napping). No picture of that - didn't want to disrupt the slumber. Charlotte had a popcorn snack before heading up to bed.
Whew! The day was done!
