Mermaids and Princesses, Oh My

I discovered that Tuesday Morning sells dress up outfits for about half of what they're priced at regular stores. Score!

Charlotte, the mermaid. She loves this dress but, unfortunately, cannot sit gracefully in it. Being a mermaid is hard.

And I picked up a Sleeping Beauty Dress for Sarah. She's such a peanut it's way too big on her.

Getting them to pose together is a challenge these days. This was the best I could do.

She's prepared

It's rained the past two days, but Sarah is ever-prepared.

It's "Uncle Van" now

Michael's friend and colleague Van, a young-ish, betrothed gentleman, is a wee bit obsessed curious about domestic bliss life.

So Van joined the Rs for our recent Friday night pizza and movie night.

First there was the requiste tour of the home where Van was shocked and appalled duly impressed found to really enjoy the swingset in the living room.

That wasn't the only thing Van enjoyed. Note the ONLY toy he opted to play with in the playroom.

Charlotte was very excited about meeting Van, as you can see, showing off her best side.

The rest of the house tour was fairly boring. Lots of crayon marks on the walls and boxes in the garage. *Yawn*

But, oh, oh, there was a peek into the bomb shelter hole in the basement wall. I think this may have been Van's favorite part of the house!

Van bestowed a lovely spring gift on the girls - a Kite! Unfortunately, the wind-free mid March evening proved too much of a challenge even for Van, the most determined of Kite flyers this West Chester neighborhood has ever seen.

Sarah, in turn, bestowed a gift upon Van. Fluff, from a stuffed animal. Oddly appropriate, wouldn't you say?

Van climbed into the swing set treehouse with Charlotte. As he was about to go down the slide, she plopped into his lap. To say that Van was surprised would be an understatement. He was nearly paralyzed. Charlotte had a blast!

The REAL heart of the night, though, was pizza and a movie. We started with some quacky old animated flick called the Singing Princess. The Princesses-in-Residence vetoed that movie in short order.

Next we tried Van's favorite, Toy Story, which prompted a significant temper tantrum from Sarah because she wanted to watch a certain scene over and over again. (A 2-year-old temper tantrum is a regular part of that domestic life.) Eventually Toy Story was rejected, as was Curious George the movie, so we settled on the current favorite Snow White.

Van and his two favorite Princesses.

Thanks for hanging out with us, Van. Hope we didn't scare you off from having your own kids some day.

How to put drops in

Charlotte has a lovely little case of conjuctivitis, along with a sinus infection. She's on antibiotics and eye drops. Tonight when Michael said it was time for eye drops, she put my sunglasses on and hopped in his lap. Silly girl.

(Forgive the horrible quality of this photo - dim lighting and taken with my cell phone.)

Remember when she used to be afraid of the garage?

There was a time that Charlotte was dearly afraid of the garage. So afraid, that she wouldn't even step foot in the driveway, let alone enter the garage. She would run from the front door through the yard and practically dive into the open van.

Now here she is happily playing Hopscotch. In the driveway.

As she was running down the sidewalk toward the driveway, she slowed down a bit and glanced at the garage door ... but then kept on going.

Random playing

Charlotte spent nearly the whole day in her chef's outfit recently.

She and Sarah had a birthday party.

A bit chilly

55 degrees and very windy made for a chilly outing at the park! We had fun anyway, despite our cold noses.

The results are in!

The curlers worked! Charlotte's hair takes curl very, very well. Have to work on making it a little bit looser. She's adorable no matter what.

Pillow rollers

Recently, I took a curling iron to Charlotte's hair and gave her some nice soft waves. She looked sooo pretty. Then she got interested in having curls. So.....

Tonight before bed I put her in pillow rollers. Found them at the store today. Will post the results tomorrow.

Hide & Seek

Sarah loves to play Hide & Seek. But, clearly, she needs to work on her hiding skillz.

Static

We all squeezed into the tent one night. Lots of static in the hair.
