The Curious Case of the Missing Cheerio

This morning Sarah ran to me all concerned. "Mommy, get the Cheerio out of my nose!!" she cried.

I looked up her nose and couldn't see anything. She tried blowing, but the wee thing just doesn't have any oomph in her blow yet.

She kept hitting her nose and banging her face on the side of the chair, so I suspected perhaps something really was up there. And she had just been eating Cheerios, so it was entirely possible a wandering Cheerio found a new home.

I called the pediatrician and we had an appt for an hour late. When Sarah put two and two together that we were going to the doctor because of the Cheerio, she said, "No, no, you can't get my Cheerio out of my nose!!"

We went anyway. She was really good with the doctor. Let him look up her nose with the light thingy for a good long time.

Alas, no "foreign bodies" could be found. Maybe she coughed it out.

Indeed a very curious case.

I think she'll be fine.

I'll go cry

Usually, whenever Charlotte is asked to do something she doesn't want to do (like brush her teeth, or put her pajamas on), she says, "Wait, I'll go cry." And she runs off and (fake) cries for a few minutes. Very often Sarah will join her.

Half-piggies

Sarah wanted her hair in pigtails today. Not enough for full pigtails, so we did half-piggies. I think she looks mighty cute.

Making "Old"

Charlotte put this blanket around Grandpa Tom's head and kept saying that he was old now. We all chuckled, but I silently wondered where that came from.

Then she came around to put blankets on everyone's head and said she was making them old too.

WHAT does it mean?

Michael finally figured it out. In Snow White, when the mean queen transforms herself into an old lady, she put something over head as part of becoming "old."

Happy Valentine's Day

The night before Valentine's day, as Charlotte was going to bed, I asked her what she wanted to do the next day (as it was Saturday). Her response was that she wanted to have a Valentine's party. Hadn't planned to do that, but why not?!

So, in true Pinkalicious style, we made pink cupcakes. Well, I made the cupcakes, they frosted them. And ate them.

And we even did a craft. A craft so easy that even I, the craft-challenged mother, could not mess it up. Behold, I give you Heart Man.

The Birthday Grandmas

February is Grandma Birthday Month over here. First is Bridget on the 7th and then Linda on the 12th.

There was cake and ice cream and opening presents. There were streamers and party hats, too.

A good time was had by all.

Sarah and I went to school with Charlotte this past week for her class Valentine's party. The party is just part of the regular day, no set time, so we just went in with Charlotte when class started and stayed the whole 2 1/2 hours. And let me just say that I hold preschool teachers in the highest regard. I was exhausted after my stint, and I wasn't even in charge. I was just there.

Sarah had a ball. She was so excited about getting to go school. For the most part she was pretty good. Except when she dumped conversation hearts on the floor, or when she dumped a jar of fuzzy balls everywhere, or when she poured a pitcher of water on the floor. Other than THAT she was an angel.

First, there was circle time:

During Circle Time they read a book about a mitten and the kids participated in the retelling. Sarah too!

She's so ready for school!!

Then there was some fun Valentine's-themed play activities. Here is Charlotte at the sensory table with Conversation Hearts.

Here's Sarah working on a heart-shaped Valentine. She was proud of this.

Charlotte's shirt, with the big shiny heart on it, was quite a hit with the other kids.

Sarah playing with the pretend Valentine's chocolate box.

Enjoying snack (just before the aforementioned water pouring).

She needs pockets

The girls were restless from being cooped up during our single-digit temperatures. So, out came the obstacle course.

Charlotte wanted her "Prince" (from Cindrella) to do the course too. He's in her hand.

And when she needed to USE her hands, she just tucked him into her waistband.

See? Look!

Sarah was mainly focused on throwing the balls. And not wearing pants.

Finally, the snowman

Charlotte finally got to build her snowman last week. The snow wasn't too soft.

Charlotte took this picture. Michael, where is Sarah's coat?

Oh, there it is - ON THE GROUND???

She wears them all

Sarah emptied out the "hair box" and prettied herself up.

As her Daddy likes to say, "You can never have too many ... [headbands]."

More of what the chicks are saying

Me: Sarah, can you go find your other [toy] cookie?
Sarah: Okay, yes, I be like a dinosaur and go find it.

******************************************
Mom came over to watch the chicks while I went to the dentist. After I left,

Charlotte (to my mom): I'm really, really sad. Mommy's GONE."
Grandma: Oh, Charlotte, but I'm here and we're going to have fun and play and eat a snack. Won't that be fun?!
Charlotte: Yeah.
Grandma: Are you happy now?
Charlotte: Yeah. But I'm still a little bit sad.

Later, when I came home:
Me: Charlotte, were you sad today when I went to the dentist?
Charlotte: Yes, but I'm quite happy now.

******************************************

Charlotte: Mommy, can I eat some some soup, like Grandma, when I'm a grown up?
Me: Yeah, sure, do want to try some soup now? I'll get you a bowl.
Charlotte: No, I'll just wait till I'm grown up.
