Tear it down

Extreme Makeover Home Edition is doing a remodel a couple of streets over from where I live. It's for a very special family who has two young daughters that require wheelchairs to get around and the wheelchairs don't fit in their house. They need it remodeled and made fully wheelchair accessible. Everything I've read about them shows what a remarkable family they are how strong and inspirational the girls are.

Today was Demolition Day so we took the 5-minute walk over to the house to watch them tear it down.

Here's the house with all the E.M. volunteers and television crew outside.

Soon the bulldozer and the "digger" (I'm such a girl, I have no idea what that other piece of construction equipment is called) arrived to get ready to tear the house down.

These are two the signs that spell out D E M O. They busted through those signs before actually tearing into the house.

Our hot and sweaty crew of watchers.

Charlotte was hot and wanted to go home. She insisted on being held the whole time. She's not a big fan of crowds or clapping and cheering. But she did okay.

I don't know this guy's name, but he's one of the celeb designers on the show.

Her too.

And of course there's Ty himself.

Soon the big crane thingy got into position. Excitment was in the air.

Some in the crowd started chanting "Tear it down, tear it down!" Sarah joined in.

There's Ty again - got to get that hard hat adjusted just so...

And then it was gone.

How cool! I love to see deserving families get the help they need. It's wonderful to see communities rallying around their own, with the help of ABC's budget!
