The Piano Recital

This afternoon Charlotte had her first ever Piano Recital. To say that I was nervous about it would be a huge understatement. If you know Charlotte at all, you know that she can be very unpredictable. Would she be silly? Would she be scared? Would she be shy?

A few weeks ago, she asked me for a "piano necklace" to wear at the recital. I didn't care for any of the piano charms I saw, so I got her a Treble Clef charm on a very pretty silver chain. Here she is modeling it.

Sarah was not too thrilled about something as we were getting ready to leave. I can't remember what now. Oh, I think it was that she wanted a "bottled water" not a sippy cup of water and I wouldn't let her have one in the car. (Disaster waiting to happen.)

However she pulled herself together on the way over there and sat quietly during the entire recital for an HOUR. She clapped when it was time to clap and was such a good girl.

Charlotte, as well, sat the entire time. She was across the room from us with the other students. The recital lasted a little over an hour, and she performed about exactly half-way through. We were so impressed with how well she did with the sitting and waiting. I wish I would have been closer to see how she kept herself occupied.

She didn't walk up on stage as much as "tromp" up there (tromp tromp tromp). And with a BIG smile on her face. (That's her teacher Miss Jenna with her.)

She played her song beautifully. She stopped a few measures into it and peeked at the audience (as though suddenly realizing they were there) and then resumed playing. Charlotte has been playing this song very silly at home, so we were kind of wondering what she would do up there. She did GREAT! No silliness.

Her bow:

After the whole thing was over, she kinda fell apart. She was crying up when they were taking the group picture on stage. I think the newness of it and all the people and the clapping and attention just got to her. She needed lots of hugs...

...and a cookie helped too.

(And of course Sarah got one too.)

All in all it was a really spectacular day. Charlotte was wonderful, Sarah was wonderful. Perfect!

How wonderful! What a great day for Charlotte! And those dresses on both your girls are precious!
